台灣 ( Táiwān ) = Taiwan
Population: 23,57 millions (2020 estimate)
Money Currency : New Taiwanese Dollar
Statut : Rich and developed country, part of the "4 asian dragons" which are the 4 most developped asian countries.
Politics: Freedom of speech, Democracy and President
Capital city : Taipei ( 台北 )
Official Language : Mandarin Chinese
Language: Chinese spoken in China and chinese spoken in Taiwan are quite different. There's a difference of accent, and some vocabularies. Just like English from UK is a bit different from English from USA.
The writting also is different: Mainland China uses simplified characters, whereas Taiwan uses traditional characters.
History : Back in the 1950's, during Cold war, there was 2 politic parties in China: Dictatorship communism and democratic socialism. Sadly, dictatorship won, and the some chinese citizens who were against dictatorship fleed to Taiwan, and created a free and democratic nation. This is how Taiwan was born. So, taiwanese people were chinese in the first place, but they fleed to Taiwan, that's why chinese people and taiwanese people speak the same language.
Taiwan is like a "small china" but with freedom (of speech, etc...). Nowadays Taiwan have their own president, politics and currency, it is a totally independant country from China. Chinese still want to take over Taiwan, but taiwanese people don't want that, because it means that they would lose their democracy and freedom if they're taken over by a dictatorship country (china).
Taiwan is like a "improved little china", and if dictatorship didn't take over China back then, China would be a country with more democracy these days. Taiwan is the mirror of what china could have been if the dictatorship party didn't win.
Relationship with other countries : Unlike china, Taiwan has very good relationship with Japan, and lot of Taiwanese people enjoy Japanese culture.
Music : Taiwanese music is called C-pop (C for Chinese, because Taiwan speaks Chinese). Taiwanese pop is less popular than Korean pop and Japanese pop, but still enjoyable to listen to. The most popular artists in Taiwan are Rainie Yang, Jolin Tsai, Jay Chou, Mike He, and the group S.H.E. I still think that Japanese language and Korean language sound better in songs than chinese language.
TV Series: Taiwanese drama are called C-drama, C-drama groups dramas from China, Taiwan and Hong-Kong or any country that speaks Chinese. C for Chinese and "drama" is the name of asian TV series. Taiwanese dramas are way less popular than K-drama (Korean dramas) but they're still good, and have a little popularity too, not as much as Japan and Korea's dramas tho. Most popular dramas from Taiwan are : Devil Beside You, Why Why Love (starring actress and singer Rainie Yang, and actor Mike He). Also there's Hi My Sweetheart, First Kiss and Meteor Garden as popular c-dramas.
Food :
- Bubble tea: most popular drink in Taiwan. It's a iced tea with different flavors: Lychee, Peach, Passion fruit, Pineapple etc... And there is some little balls inside the drink, called "bubbles". Those little balls are edible and one of the most popular are Tapioca ones.
- Ti-huih-ko: or pig's blood cake is an unusual Taiwanese street food item made by coating sticky rice in pig's blood, steaming or frying the combination, basting it in a slightly sweet pork soy broth, rolling the whole combination in peanut flour, and finally topping the whole thing off with coriander.
The dish, which looks like a weird popsicle, is praised for being unique both in its texture and flavor. The final result is something of a cross between mochi and a rice cake. The flavors are porky, sweet, salty, and spicy due to the unusual combination of ingredients.
